Va ricordato che mentre Pietro non era in grado di arruolarsi per combattere nella seconda guerra mondiale a causa dei piedi piatti, una delle sue sorelle, Teresa fu in grado di arruolarsi nel 1939, come si vede nella lista degli italiani di Guelph che si arruolarono nella seconda guerra mondiale fornita da Ricardo Gazzola, così come nella pagina del giornale qui sotto. Il giornale parla di come Peter è stato registrato come un “enemy alien” anche se era nato in Canada. Parla anche della discriminazione che lui e sua sorella, così come presumibilmente la sua famiglia, avevano affrontato a causa della loro origini italiane, e di come hanno superato questo orribile trattamento con le loro azioni coraggiose.

It should be mentioned that, while Peter was unable to enlist as a Canadian soldier in the second world war due to flat feet, Teresa, one his sisters was able to do so in 1939, as seen in the list provided by Mr. Gazzola of the Italians of Guelph who had enlisted in WW2, as well as in the newspaper clipping shown above. The Newspaper speaks of how peter was registered as an enemy alien even though he was born in Canada. It also speaks of the discrimination both him and his sister, as well as his family presumably, faced due to their Italian heritage, and how they overcame this horrible treatment by their brave actions.
