Peter Marucci, Album 7, image 017

A newspaper clipping from 1960 title "Man Gets Burns in Foundry Fire” refereeing to Harold Perkins. The fire was instantly put out by Peter Marucci whose picture is in the center of the clipping. Retrieved from the Marucci albums in the Wellington Archive; Album 7, image 017.

Translation

In an interview with Ricardo Gazzolla, conducted on October 30th, 2019, he explains how Peter was the ‘middleman’ for many of the people in the Italian community. He would help them connect with whomever it is they needed due to his good relations with the people of Guelph in general, whether an authority figure or a regular citizen. In an email sent to me by Ricardo on October 31th, 2019, he stated how Peter was a photographer; always with a camera in hand: “Pete Marucci eh un fotographia con la maccina sempre in Mano”.

While working as a superintendent at a Founder services Ltd. Plant in Guelph, Peter was able to subdue an accidental fire, followed by calling the fire department, thereby resolving a negative situation that could have otherwise escalated into a tragedy.

This incident, among many other good deeds shown throughout the 26 albums collected by Peter, all show how dedicated and goal-oriented Peter was. He was able to work, socialize, participate in charity events as well as document all these occurrences simultaneously. The albums that Peter had collected hold valuable information about the members of the Italian community of Guelph, their social lives as well as their struggles and the difficulty they faced. Peter Marucci had put tremendous effort into these albums to let the world know of the Italian community; he had known that this community is worth the time and effort and thereby deserved to have his 26 albums showcased in the Wellington Museum Archive down in Fergus, Ontario.
